If you are operating a business which requires writing, odds are you almost certainly suffer from the dreaded writer’s block occasionally. When this happens to me, in my internet marketing coaching business, I’ve observed that the easiest way to start writing once more is to take myself out of the usual surroundings and go and work elsewhere such as a cafe or the library.
Then again, now and again even that doesn’t work and I want something extra to get me writing. As a result, I make motivation techniques into a game.
Fourth Shelf Down
The Aim:
To get over writer’s block and write down an entire piece of content regardless of how skillful or deficient I assess it to be.
The Location:
A community library, bookshop or the book-shelves in your home.
The Game:
Decide exactly how long you will write for however don’t make it in excess of 45 minutes.
Go over to the bookcase where many of your favourite books are housed and select the book that is on the fourth shelf down and 20 books from the left. No matter what it is, use that to inspire your writing.
You can use the title as your inspiration or open to a arbitrary page and select a specific paragraph. If you decide to use a paragraph choose which paragraph on which page, or maybe simply pick a page number and use the paragraph where your gaze initially falls. I like to keep it uncomplicated and just go with the title. However the essential point is to choose what you’ll use ahead of when you start and then follow it. Do not change your mind when you get to the book. Just read and start writing.
It does not need to make sense or even be about the topic you’ve just read. The object is to simply start writing and don’t stop until your chosen time is up. If you achieve that your creative juices will be flowing and you’ll be prepared to write “for real”.
I’ve composed countless useful content pieces in this way but that’s a bonus. The primary goal is to get over your block and begin writing.
